80 years of the Monbazillac appellation

80 years of excellence, history:

“Historically it was to fight against fraud that the concept of appellation of origin was built-up progressively from the start of the 20th century (law of 1905). A statutory law of 1935 relating to the defence of the wine market created the AOC (controlled appellation of origin). The first wines to benefit from this new advice and management system saw their decrees ratified on 15 May 1936.

It was thus that 5 wine appellations and 1 eau-de-vie became the pioneers in this new concept. ARBOIS, CASSIS, CHATEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE, MONBAZILLAC and TAVEL. Not to forget the first eau-de-vie, COGNAC.  It was during the INAO colloquium in Avignon in April 2015 that those responsible for these appellations, including Sylvie ALEM for the Monbazillac section of the FVBD, suggested a project for a joint festival to celebrate “the anniversary of the 80 years of these appellations”. Producta Vignobles naturally took part in this event, allowing discovery of the Monbazillac appellation through a highlight cheese and Monbazillac tasting on its stands at Vinisud and Prowein 2016, in the company of the team from the cave de Monbazillac. Bloggers, customers and visitors were able to discover both classic and surprising pairings with CHATEAU SEPTY 2013, DUC DE CASTELLAC 2014 and CHATEAU MONBAZILLAC 2011 with artisan Roquefort de Carles, farmhouse Bleu d’Auvergnes, Munster and Maroilles.
