What’s the background of Mathias, our quality and product technician, serious and always available?

A native of Bordeaux, Mathias has lived and breathed “wine” since his youth. More than a vocation, wine is a real passion for him! After having learnt the fundamentals of the vine in childhood, he chose to continue his education with higher studies related to wine and the vine.

After more than a year working for a wine merchant, Mathias joined Producta Vignobles in February 2002. Attracted by the missions assigned to him, he chose to join our team to put in place customer specifications concerning the best practices to be followed in the various vineyards and cellars.

It was in this role that he contributed to the creation of the Producta Vignobles quality department, in collaboration with Marie Acier – Quality and Product Manager. For 17 years, this team has been working together closely, to better monitor the development of the profiles of all our wines.

But what would this department be without the third member of the team, Quality Assistant Caroline Friou?  After joining the department in 2013, she became the reference point for customer requirements, thanks to her expertise. This close-knit and motivated team is a real link between sales and the cellars.

With his hands-on approach and bursting with joie de vivre, Mathias got down to his task without delay and completed it successfully. Glad to have won the trust of management, Mathias then went on to expand his field of intervention, by including wine selection and blending among his assignments.

What are Mathias’s current assignments?

In a constantly changing environment, Mathias has to respect our customers’ requests, to meet market expectations. Constantly doing the rounds of the cellars in all our appellations, he makes it a point of honour to reconcile technique with sales and marketing needs.

This position allows him to work in a collaborative way with all the players in the sector. This is certainly why he loves the period from December to April, when the vinifications are coming to an end. The selection and pre-selection of the wines must also take place at this time. His responsiveness is a real asset.

A profile in perfect harmony with the cooperative spirit.

If asked “Why cooperation for 17 years now?” he will answer that it is a great way to follow the complete product process, with the special characteristics of our different appellations. The customer specifications he deals with concern cellars and bottling plants while the selections he makes affect the vineyard, cellars and trade.

His position gives him a 360° vision, from the vineyard to the glass.

He also has some nice stories to tell about his work. As an example, after several months searching for a particular aromatic profile, he finally found it quite by chance on tasting a tank with aromas and flavours that he would then use in a blend. It is in this kind of situation that he emphasises the importance of being open-minded and able to listen. It is all these moments of exchange and sharing that bring continuous renewal to each project Mathias leads.

His mission is never straightforward and his job evolves every day!
